Musical collection and archiving

A few weks back I was trying to think like what is my role within my music collecting, I have followed music in depth since about 1984 in a almost obsessional way . I had a break for about 6 years in the 90s when other things were on my horizon. Since about 1998 I have followed music in a slightly different way than I did before. In the 80s the indie scene was almost like a cottage industry, so many genres of music it seemed that there were so many labels and so many artists, vinyl used to be king then of course. In the mid 90s there was a definate shift away from vinyl towards cds, in early 2000 the napster p2p program really opened up the world to so much more music. For instance I followed industrial music for a number of years, alot of artist I collected but some it was hard to get certain records as most were only available on import, as a result as my musical tastes moved on they fell by the way side. However with the mp3 thing I am finding artists that I previously like and rediscovering them more.

I suppose I am a musical archivist in that I used to collect vinyl, but after my break I collected cd in both original form and in digital format. My next chalenging is to think about the storage and ease of access to my vast collections

Twitter the hours away

All this thing about Twitter and privacy doing my head in. It does not take a genius to work out what football players in the top league use twitter and then sort of a process of elimination. It must be someone with alot of money to burn to run the risk of action from twitter if the case fails. I have a twitter account, but I dont get this follower thing where people thing they have legion of followers, I think twitter works on the assumption that everyone has a higher sense of their own importance, where as facebook is like a structered almost diary like site
