Rangers FC- Just like starting over....?

On this site there has not been alot of football posts of late. However there has been one story that has been on the front of the football tabloids for some time. Over the last few years there has been such a heavy reliance on the revenues that tv rights bring that most clubs offset there debts against future revenues. About 20 years ago the teams in the top division were very much focused on the area of the country that team was from and in most set ups there was alot of home grown talent. Over the years with the TV playing such a big part in the overall picture many players have arrived from various countries and so the level of the leagues has raised considerably. In scotland especially in the early s onwards there started to become a difference in lower league sides feileding sides of mostly scottish players, where as the top clubs started to introduce players from the premier and other countries. I would say that Rangers were a little more pro-active in foriegn players. With the influx of players there was added wage bills. My main concern for Rangers was when they intorduced Tore andre Flo from chelsea. This was along time ago but to attarct the players they wanted they were obviously not balancing the books. Which obviously brings us to the situation that is unfolding at the moment, Due to tax bills and other issues Rangers went into administration and liquidation and are now forming a new company and trying to start in the top division. The new owners obviously a trying to spend a season out of the top flight. But to me this sets a dangerous precident , it literally invalidates all the lower league teams promotion and relegation issues. It creates an impression that financial mismanagement can be brushed under the carpet and only a one demotion will be inflicted. I think in terms of scottish football there may be one or two clubs who follow the rangers lead and go down the same route. It also to me indicates that there will be celtic dominance for a few years, but some other scottish clubs will be challenign and maybe might do better in europe. Instead of it being the big two for two-three years there could be another team pushing and challenign celtic. I have to say that Ally mccoist came out in a bbc article outlining that he feels that ranegrs have a better chance if they start from division threee. i think he is right, but it would alo be intresting to see rangers playing alloa and east stirling. They off course would be a new company but would feel a sense of injustice and would probably gain back to back promotions. But it would be like witnessing arsenal in division 3. Intresting to see what happens in the next few weeks.
